I am currently pursing an PhD in history at the University of Arizona. I have taught college history courses on a variety of subjects including US history prior to the America Civil War. I also have tutored students with a focus on European and world history. I am able to help students prepare for the IB History HL and IB History SL exams.History is far more than just the factual names and dates that are to be memorized and recited. In order to truly understand history, my students need to understand the stories that surround the facts. I find that my students are not always engaged by simply reading about history. Looking at videos, pictures, and other visual resources helps to solidify the concepts we are reading and discussing.Being able to write compelling essays is critical for the history student. In my tutoring session, I also work on writing skills, including essay editing, with my students. We also work to develop their persuasive argument skills by both using appropriate evidence and anticipating the talking points of someone with an opposite opinion of the topic at hand.I spending time outdoors rock climbing and working with my dog.
