I am a teacher certified to instruct first year Earth Science, first year Biology, and high school Math courses. I earned a bachelor's degree with a double major in Astronomy and Physics at the University of Arizona. I tutored for several years at the University of Texas and the University of Arizona. I have also studied linguistics, and attended a program in scientific Russian in Novosibirsk, back in 1989.During my early learning experiences, I struggled in Math classes. I then learned how to overcome my struggle and succeed in these courses by learning new study techniques. I now enjoy tutoring students in Math, because I know what it is like to become frustrated while learning, so I created my teaching curriculum with my past frustration in mind. One of my secrets for teaching Math to struggling students is to find out what concepts they did not develop an understanding of in the past. Past misunderstood lessons or even full courses are usually the root problem of why students are having difficulties in their current lessons. I then teach them the misunderstood concepts, even if they stem from a course taken long ago. I also like to really connect with my students and learn their career goals. I can then inform them how the information they are currently learning will help them later in their careers.
