Hi, I'm Elaine, and I'm pursuing my doctoral degree in English literature from Duke. I enjoy tutoring subjects like essay writing and editing, comparative literature, English, history, conversational Mandarin Chinese, social studies, reading, ACT preparation, PSAT preparation, GRE preparation, SAT preparation, and more. I've helped everyone from middle school students through students at the graduate level and beyond. As an undergraduate student, I've taught classes and I've tutored athletes on campus. My evaluations were very high, and I was awarded as an outstanding graduate instructor. I've also assisted teachers in teaching workshops. I excel at working with students who don't embrace education because they are anxious about writing or they have had negative experiences with other instructors. I also work well with gifted students, identifying their strengths and helping build on top of those to help them achieve higher scores and get into their dream school. I modify my approach to tutoring based on the individual learning style of each student I work with. When I have spare time, I enjoy doing yoga and cooking new foods, and animals.
