I'm an experienced tutor and instructor in many subject areas. I teach grammar and mechanics, essay writing and editing, critical thinking and reading comprehension, study skills and organization, U.S. history and politics, Spanish language, and public speaking. Currently at the University of Arizona, I am working towards a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science and Philosophy.After completing my undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where I was awarded Highest Honors and Distinction, I did substitute teaching at the high school level. That's when I realized how much I love teaching. I have a talent for seeing things from the student's perspective, which is why I am very successful tutoring on a one-to-one basis. I always individualize my teaching to suit the student's learning style.I have created and taught advanced undergraduate course curricula at the University of Arizona, including law, political science, economics, psychology, human development, and mathematics. Teaching middle school and high school as well as being an instructor at the North Carolina Governor's School were all very positive experiences for me. I discovered the many rewards of teaching students at all levels. Besides teaching, I like to learn bluegrass and old-time fiddle tunes. I learn them by ear and play incognito on the street. I'm into composing electronic music, and I also like to juggle with large numbers of objects, including torches and knives.
