My name is Sofia. I am very excited to have the opportunity to tutor students and help them reach their full potential. As a former Sylvan Learning Center instructor, I have experience with a variety of subjects and have worked with students of all skill levels. My areas of focus include history, social studies, reading, mathematics, SAT prep, and study skills. While I am more than willing to help in nearly any subject, my specialty is history.I received my bachelor's degree in European History at the University of California-Santa Cruz, and my master's degree in Modern European History at the University of Arizona. While working toward my own degrees, I was given the opportunity to join Teach For America and receive the Initial Educator's Certificate. Through this program, I spent two years inside a classroom teaching Social Studies to 7th Graders. At this time, I am attending the University of Arizona again to obtain my Ph.D. in Modern European History. Keeping students motivated and focused in the classroom is extremely important to me. Every student is unique and should be taught in a way that caters to the individual. There is such joy in seeing students understand and appreciate a subject they were once struggling in. In my spare time, I enjoy enthusing about music, visiting with my family, and watching guilty pleasure TV shows.
