I believe that being an educator is more than just having knowledge of a subject. To be a successful tutor, one also needs to have the right attitude, be able to connect with their students, and understand that each person has their own unique set of strengths, weaknesses, and expectations that need to be taken into account with preparing lessons. For this reason, I like to tutor with a student-centered approach that puts the needs of my pupil first so that I am better equipped to help them overcome their unique challenges and learn how to apply their classroom material practically in their day-to-day lives. I've been working as a tutor since I was a high school student, so I've had the opportunity to gain a lot of hands-on experience that's helped me learn how to maximize my teaching methods. I currently hold a bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona and a master's from Trinity College, Dublin. Both of my degrees are in English, which just happens to be one of my favorite subjects to tutor. Along with all levels of English, I also help students prepare for exams like the PSAT and SAT, study math, and improve their writing skills.
